The visionary stylist and prêt-à-porter pioneer passed away this Tuesday at the age of 98.
The French designer Pierre Cardin died on Tuesday at the age of 98, the family informed the AFP agency. The renowned dressmaker was an industry visionary and one of the great pioneers of ready-to-wear.
Of Italian parents, he was born in 1922 in the Italian town of Sant’Andrea di Barbarana as Pietro Cardin, to a family of farmers who emigrated to France to escape fascism. He moved to Paris in 1945 and learned alongside great Parisian creators, became emancipated to launch in 1950 his brand of futuristic vision and with this successful emporium he revolutionized fashion with abstract silhouettes of sculptural forms.
