Pieter Mulier, the right-hand man of designer Raf Simons, has just been named the new creative director of the Maison Azzedine Alaïa.
Most fashion fans may recognize Mulier (@pieter_mulier) from the 2014 documentary “Dior and I“. At the time he was working as acting director to further communications between Simons and the Parisian ateliers. Mulier began working for Simons during the fall-winter 2002 collection: “Virginia Creeper“. Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength working as accessories director for the brand and as creative director for Calvin Klein until 2018.
According to Mulier, Alaïa’s powerful vision has inspired him because of the way she transcends and marks each era. Thus, he feels it is a great responsibility to be able to continue her legacy by celebrating femininity and dictating the steps for the future of the maison.
Now the creative will have to face the creative direction of Alaïa and is expected to bring out his first collection for SS22. He will surely manage to adapt the brand to contemporary demands.
