PRADA FW24: naturally human needs

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons juxtapose the office and nature to create a collection that reconnects us with our natural instincts.

PRADA FW24: naturally human needs

A third day of Milan Fashion Week, but not just any day. It’s Prada day, and that means not missing the appointment at the Fondazione Prada, one of the highlights of each season. This time, the Italian brand transports us to a universe where corporate codes and nature converge in a fashion show that invites us to explore. After immersing us in “Fluid Architecture” in the SS24 season, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons now take us to explore “Human Nature” in their FW24 menswear show.

The setting, conceived by design studio AMO, stands as a visual testament to the duality between corporate life and nature, a dichotomy between the two worlds. Upon entering, we walk through a world of blue cubicles, desks and individual computer screens. The monotony of the work routine that greets us is no match for the nature that emerges from the floor of the Fondazione. As we enter the labyrinth of the Prada office, the glass walkway allows us to see the vegetation, leaves, streams and rocks beneath our feet.

The Prada Autumn/Winter 2024 collection is a reaffirmation of the deep human connection to nature, an invitation to explore “the fundamental truths of humanity, our natural instincts, our emotional needs”. The garments, influenced by seasonal rhythms and natural order, become witnesses to an endless cycle. From dark shades that evoke sobriety to flashes of purple, green and red that radiate vitality, the chromatic palette reflects the richness and diversity of nature and our lives.

The 50 imposing outlets fuse work aesthetics, which resonate in tailoring, with elements of natural influence, whether in footwear or accessories. Swimmers’ caps, sailor’s caps and buttons bring us closer to the marine world, while belts remind us of the leaves of different plants. In certain looks, there is a tribute to the balaclava, introduced by Raf Simons on the catwalk, introducing the thermal sensation of the winter season.

Prada, in its desire to awaken our deepest instincts and needs, seeks to reincorporate seasonal rhythms and natural order into fashion. This show is not just a display of elegant garments, but an invitation to reconnect with the nature that surrounds us. Fashion, in the hands of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, has become a vivid expression of the desire to go out and experience the world out there.
