In case you hadn’t noticed, fashion month and New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has begun and with it the most eagerly awaited shows from some of the country’s most important fashion houses. One of the first to do so and one that has attracted the most attention, as in every edition, has been Proenza Schouler, which has also celebrated its 20th anniversary in the fashion industry.
On the catwalk of this celebration were present the singer Arca, in charge of opening the show, as well as some of the most important top models of today such as Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Vittoria Ceretti and representing the top models of the 90’s the iconic Shalom Harlow and Maria Carla Boscono. All of them wore the creations of Jack McCollough and Lázaro Hernández, considered by many to be the it boys of the Big Apple.
Analysing the Spring/Summer 23 collection we can see how the first looks are mainly characterised by silk fringes and crochet or knitted garments. Once these looks saw the light of day, both designers decided to explore Latin flourishes, such as flamingo ruffles peeking out of the hems of generously cut bell-bottoms, polka dots decorating ruffled dresses and ruffled bell sleeves. All these elements referenced Lázaro’s Cuban roots and contrasted perfectly with the videos of waterfalls projected on the marble walls of the venue and the soundtrack by ASMR.
Proenza Schouler SS23 is not just an ordinary collection, but goes much further, as it speaks of the idea of energy, joy, sensuality and the things that sometimes we feel have been lost in our lives and we try to find a way to recover them.
