Dutch designer Sander Lak marks a before and after with the presentation of the new Sies Marjan collection at the NYFW.
Sies Marjan AW19 has delighted us with a brilliant show that comes entirely out of its comfort zone. Sander Lak, the designer of the firm, confesses that he wanted to expand his own limits and transform the stereotypes into fresh and innovative elements. The collection revolves around love and falling in love.Traditional elements evoke this idea (pink and red tones, shines, frills, lace) and are reinvented to create something completely new capable of breaking all the conventions surrounding love and romance.
The floor had a black carpet covered with small Swarovski crystals that gave the impression of being in a dream. Curiously, they were launched minutes before the start of the fashion parade as confetti. The perfect beginning to live one of the most striking personal transgressions of the firm, which have included elements that Lak himself confesses he hated and has now fallen in love with, having managed to introduce them in a completely new way, as is the case of lace.

Sander Lak stands out for its exquisite use of difficult patterns and apparently incompatible colours. Key elements include neon tones mixed with silk fabrics, Swarovski meshes in vibrant colours and volume plays in kaleidoscopically coloured garments. But it is the use of color which has made Sies Marjan one of NYFW’s top brands.
The result of his fashion show has been a live demonstration on a dream stage that, effectively, in fashion nothing is impossible and not everything is created.
