The first edition of NU Live x Sónar Sounds, to be held on June 26, 27, and 28, 2026, in Tokyo, will feature performances by Actress, Suzanne Ciani, William Basinski, Grandbrothers, DJ KRUSH, Daito Manabe, Two Shell, Portrait XO, Albert.DATA, among many others.
The NU Live × Sónar Sound program brings an intergenerational spectrum of groundbreaking electronic music to the festival’s main stage at the TAKANAWA GATEWAY Convention Center, in the LINKPILLAR hall.
Featured artists include Actress, one of the key figures in British electronic music, who will perform both solo and in collaboration with synthesizer pioneer Suzanne Ciani, under the name Concrète Waves. Ambient music icon William Basinski will present a world premiere for grand piano, while Grandbrothers will debut in Japan with a sound that fuses classical minimalism with electronic energy.
The program will also feature performances by DJ KRUSH, Nathan Fake, Two Shell, Daito Manabe, Meitei, Sapphire Slows, Sakura Tsuruta, Kyomi, Minna-no-Kimochi, COLA REN, among other prominent artists.
Sónar+D at NU Art
At MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, NU Art × Sónar+D presents exhibitions, talks, installations, and live performances, curated in collaboration with AI artist and researcher Nao Tokui.
The program offers alternative perspectives on AI, generation, and automation, with works by Dentsu Lab Tokyo x Qosmo, Sputniko!, Yutaka Makino, Ayumi Nagai, Neutone / Roland, Neutune x MixAudio, and Alexis André from Sony Computer Science Laboratories – Paris, in collaboration with Kengo Kuma & Associates.
Highlights include performances by Portrait XO and Albert.DATA, as well as conversations with artists such as Nao Tokui and Andrea Faroppa, director of Sónar+D.
A new urban festival for Tokyo
The NU Festival is held at LINKPILLAR Hall, MoN Takanawa, on the third-floor terrace next to Takanawa Gateway Station South Gate and Gateway Park, reflecting TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY’s vision as an “experimental space for life 100 years from now.” In addition to ticketed performances and exhibitions, the festival offers an extensive free program through NU Station × J-WAVE and NU Park, featuring artists such as DJ EMMA, KO KIMURA, Kotsu & Nari, FULLHOUSE, Shinichi Osawa, RHYME, Shingo Nakamura, and SATOSHI OTSUKI.
