The stores have already opened the SS18 pre-oder, which means we’re starting to think about how we’ll walk the streets next season. What is clear is that it doesn’t matter what style you have, the stripes will be part of your outfit.
In addition to other trends such as semi-washed denim, vintage eyewear and superimposed garments, many designers opted for vertical stripes in the past few weeks of fashion, however, only a few could do something coherent and functional with them. Balmain, Kenzo or Comme des Garcons Homme applied the stripes but Balenciaga or Astrid Andersen, from our point of view, took it to another level.
The return to the stripes symbolizes a return to the usual, parallelism and correct forms. It is a redefinition of classic patterns adapted to the post-street trends of the moment.
This season differs from the past in that almost all the designers who influence the democratic market (Zara, HM, Etc.) have used them and this implies that we will see it everywhere. They don’t come back to occupy the offices, but the clubs and the streets. It’s a decontextualization of the standards we love.
As for how we will dress the stripes, there is little to say. Stripes have always been the great misunderstood and difficult to combine, without forgetting the plaids.
We are in a moment where freedom is the maximum of fashion, all combinations are accepted: stripes with squares, vertical and horizontal in the same outfit, etc. At this point the barriers of correctness have been broken, we wear tracksuits with high heels and socks : -). You can wear stripes with whatever you want as long as you are sure and convinced of your look.
Remember what Coco said: “It’s not the appearance, it’s the essence. It’s not the money, it’s the education. It’s not the clothes, it’s the class.“
