Edinburgh has voted to ban strip clubs in the Scottish capital. The new policy was approved by five votes to four.
This law is in line with the Scottish government’s strategy to end violence against women and girls. They argue that “prostitution, lap dancing, stripping and pornography” are closely linked to assaults on women.
Danielle Worden, a legal social worker with United Voices of the World Union, said there is no direct correlation between these sites and sexual violence. “Not only does this violate the Equality Act 2010, but it is an act of cruelty to eliminate the livelihoods of hundreds of women workers as we enter the worst economic crisis of our history”.
