The empowered sisterhood of Dior Pre-Fall 2022

Maria Grazia Chiuri continues to update the archetypes of feminine dress through the Dior Pre-Fall 2022 collection: an empowered celebration of dissident women.

That vibrant sisterhood that built the house’s legacy guides the Italian designer’s creative vision for this new capsule that pays tribute to all those strong women who supported and inspired Chiuri along the way.

The concept of sisterhood thus unifies the entire collection through vintage emblems such as that of the Dior family or symbolisms of power through messages such as “l’union fait la force” on skirts and checked jumpers that borrow from British pop-punk aesthetics.

This iconoclastic idea of deconstructing binary clothing inspires the capsule with which the creative director corrupts the austere Catholic school uniform, resulting in genderless silhouettes dressed arrhythmically between the aesthetic polarisation of elegance and romanticism, and punk.

We thus unravel an imaginary of structured plaid skirts and utilitarian pencil skirts that share styling with quilted jackets reimagined as textured dresses cinched with safety belts. A play of contrasts in which other looks in molded black chiffon stand out as strappy bustier skirts and sheer lace tops.
