This project promises an evolution both sonically and aesthetically, taking Abel Tesfaye’s narrative to its darkest and most reflective climax. The visual teaser accompanying the announcement is a work of art in itself: a display of enigmatic imagery and a message that goes beyond simple promotion. “Yesterday was fourteen years ago…we held our breath falling into a shining sea in the hours of the night. They tried to cleanse the wounds with melodies and lights, a bulletproof bandage to protect what lies beneath.” A manifesto of sorts, a reflection of the duality between past and present, between glory and vulnerability.
“In a place where the seasons never changed, where time ceased to exist. But therein lies the problem. Today has felt like an endless spin. I keep distorting the truth, immune to dizziness, numbed by nausea. What lies beneath screams silently. I look in the mirror and feel old and new, trapped in limbo and unable to move. I still haven’t faced myself.”
These words are not just a preamble, but a reflection of the introspection and weariness of an artist who has gone from being a cult figure to a global phenomenon. ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ follows ‘After Hours’ (2020) and ‘Dawn FM’ (2022), thus completing a cycle that has redefined the boundaries of pop, crossing territories from the conceptual to the experimental without losing the connection with a mass audience.
The culmination of this journey will be celebrated live: on Saturday, September 7, The Weeknd will offer a unique show at the Estádio Morumbi in São Paulo, Brazil, an experience that will be broadcast live on YouTube so that everyone can be part of the end of this trilogy. At a time when the ephemeral predominates, Abel chooses to leave a mark. The end of an era is approaching, and we are all invited to be witnesses.
The Weeknd becomes the third artist in history to earn 7 diamond certifications.
