Architect Bjarke Ingles has teamed up with 3D printer Icon and Liz Lambert, the hotel’s owner, to realise one of the most ambitious projects in luxury hospitality.
Located in the city of Marfa, Texas, the hotel will occupy more than 25 hectares of desert in the west of the state and will feature exclusive suites, an infinity pool and outdoor communal facilities. In addition, all guest rooms have been designed to take full advantage of the desert landscape through vaulted structures and floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Davis Mountains.
“The promise of 3D printing is that the printer doesn’t care how complex the design is, whether it uses organic curvature, dome shapes or hyperbolic paraboloids,” says Bjarke Ingles. “The only thing that matters is the time it takes to print and the amount of material to be used,” he adds.
The fact that each building is printed on Icon‘s Vulcan machines allows for a huge minimisation of manufacturing waste and makes them 350% stronger than houses and hotels built using traditional methods.
An official opening date for the new hotel has not yet been confirmed but if you don’t want to miss any details we recommend you to stay tuned to our website and social networks.
