Seven years ago, Bad Gyal burst onto the Spanish music scene as a promising young artist. Now, the artist has received the International Young Talent Award from the King and Queen of Spain.
The National Art Museum of Catalonia (Barcelona) hosted the first edition of the La Vanguardia Awards to coincide with the recent 140th anniversary of the newspaper. The event was presided over by King Felipe and Queen Leticia, who took part in the presentation of the awards.
Among the award winners was the singer Bad Gyal, who was recognised in the International Young Talent category for “her transgressive spirit, her charismatic personality and because she has become one of the female icons of Latin dancehall and trap music”.
The artist took the stage to collect the award from Felipe and Letizia, a picture that generated countless memes on social networks. The artist chose a Paco Rabanne FW23 mini dress, JW Anderson bag and Gianvitto Rossi heels for the occasion.
Her followers made allusions to Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, joking about how “envious” they must be of their parents to be next to “the queen of Spain”. They also talked about changing the Spanish anthem for Fiebre or about how she had skipped the dress code.
In her thank you speech, the singer stressed: “I don’t consider myself a role model or a role model. I consider our female football players as role models, who in the last few days have shown that they have fought for things that are still necessary”.
