Vaquera SS23: the subversive American dream

New York-based Vaquera brand Va has returned to Paris Fashion Week for the second time to showcase its SS23 collection.

For FW22, Vaquera made its debut at Paris Fashion Week. Now, the New York-based brand returns to the PFW schedule to showcase its SS23 collection. Designers Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee’s effort to bring a subversive American dream to the French capital was effortlessly achieved.

Washed denim pieces, dramatic shapes on sailor-style garments, rock and roll leggings, pleated blouses, fringed belts, teddy bear key chains, puffed sleeves, ruffled skirts, oversized jumpers, lots of metallics and the American flag permeated the collection.

Satin ensembles were frayed at the edges and included swinging chains and pearl belts alongside voluminous dresses accented with oversized lapels, ruffles and ribbons. Fringed leather jackets, bras, handbags and whips were out of this sailor vibe.

Of course, the duo couldn’t resist presenting a cape dress made from the American flag. In the previous collection they also glimpsed a similar ensemble, however in this one they add a frayed wedding dress over pink tights belonging to Patric DiCaprio’s mother.
