The Y2K aesthetic, named after the well-known Y2K effect, has been with us for a few seasons now, encouraging us to revive trends we thought we had forgotten. Now it’s the turn of the juxtaposition of dresses over trousers.
Combining dresses with trousers might seem like a trend that is too rooted in the 2000s. However, different fashion brands such as Prada, Acne Studios, Fendi and Schiaparelli have shown in their Spring-Summer 2021 presentations that it is feasible for this duo to return in an updated form for the coming seasons.
A year later, and with micro trends constantly being updated, the juxtaposition between a dress and trousers is not so far-fetched. We could say that it is one of the most attractive proposals for 2022. Even Zara and Veronika Heilbrummer have been among the first to give this street style combo a go in their latest launches.
Fendi opts for both garments to be fluid and transparent; Chloé opts for a more oversized version with XXL trousers and mini-dresses; Isabel Marant incorporates low-rise trousers and dresses with slits; Louis Vuitton combines straight jeans with asymmetrical dresses; Alberta Ferretti opts for maxi-dresses over trousers and Peter Do for minimalism.
“It girls” like Bella Hadid choose to create a balance between masculine and feminine details and wear the shortest and sexiest dresses in our wardrobe with suit trousers or jeans; Hailee Steinfeld gives a new life to the old-fashioned black jeans with a Victorian-style dress; Mónica Anoz resorts to a loose-fitting boho maxi dress with leggings.
