Victoria’s Secret made its triumphant return to the runway tonight, after a six-year absence, and brought with it an explosion of glamour and diversity that few expected. At the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the show turned into a spectacle where every dazzling look revealed a supermodel. Fashion heavyweights such as the Hadid sisters, Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam and He Cong shone as style icons, while legends such as Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes and Behati Prinsloo retained their wings with elegance.
The catwalk became a parade of top models such as Joan Smalls, Irina Shayk and Lila Moss – daughter of Kate Moss – all synchronized with musical performances that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Victoria’s Secret spared no expense: it took attendees on a boat with the brand’s logo, enjoying mini bottles of Moet and ice creams from Smize & Dream by Tyra, while three big-name artists (Lisa, Tyla and Cher) filled the air with music. Even the Empire State Building was lit up in the brand’s iconic pink.
“It’s a beautiful moment,” Jill Kortleve said backstage, excited by the celebration of diversity. Paloma Elsesser joined in, emphasizing the authenticity of the brand’s efforts: “It’s going to be a wonderful celebration of women at different stages of their lives.” Ashley Graham, who had never followed these shows before because she didn’t feel represented, said: “There’s a new Victoria’s Secret now, like a breath of fresh air. I see girls who look like me, and that’s what matters. Fashion today celebrates diversity in all its forms.”
With such a powerful comeback, Victoria’s Secret has proven that it is ready to redefine its legacy, embracing diversity and delivering a show that will resonate with the heart of contemporary fashion. This isn’t just a new era; it’s a new beginning for the brand that will hopefully be represented not only in the runways, but in the sizing of the clothes, the campaigns and much more.
