LUAR’s SS23 “ALTA GAMA” collection is a journey through the memories, childhood and first encounters with fashion of the brand’s creative director Raúl López. The designer represents in the 45 looks the values of his family: strength, protection and most importantly: power.
LUAR SS23 was a trip back to the 80s, to Lopez’s childhood and to the heart of Brooklyn where the Dominican grew up. A Spring-Summer 2023 full of bias cuts, gathered edges and crossed and contrasting elements. High and low, leisure and glamour, community and family. These were the pillars with which the brand brought spectacularity back to the catwalk, and where Lopez presented his own version of high class and high end.
The label moved away from the stereotypes of the eighties and redefined them in its own way. This time, with shoulder pads, but more elevated and rounded. “The bold shoulder was really an expression of myself,” the designer commented, adding that while he wanted to reflect the 80s and 90s, that piece was him “expressing how I had the weight of the world on my shoulders by being super flamboyant, high-pitched and a gay man hiding in the wardrobe.”
With family gatherings in mind, Lopez wanted to show her interpretation of luxury. That’s why there was no shortage of trench coat dresses, asymmetric crocodile and ostrich print blazers, coats, geometric print blouses, pleated trousers, pinstripe suits, long denim skirts and more. In many of the looks, contemporary tailoring stood out, and as much as we travelled back in time, the future was more present than ever.
This limited edition LUAR Ana Bag will only be available for one day.
