We’ll dance again in 2022: Primavera Sound is postponed one more year

It seems that the nostalgic mood of returning to the festivals will have to be lived for another year. Primavera Sound —due to the pandemic context— has been forced to postpone its next festival to June 2022. Even so, Primavera Pro will hold a hybrid edition this year, from June 2 to 4.

The twentieth anniversary of Primavera Sound is thus postponed, in sentimental mode, by the hand of a statement from the organization:

“It is with great sadness that we must communicate that the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound Barcelona is postponed until 2022 due to force majeure.

We have already taken this painful decision due to the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework for large events on the original dates of the festival – from June 2 to 6 – which, added to the restrictions that currently exist, mean that we cannot work normally in the preparation of the festival or ensure that, once the date arrives, it can be held. Although painful, we know this is the right decision, especially for those of you who have to plan your trip in advance.

We have tried everything: we led the clinical trial held in the Apolo hall in Barcelona last December and we have been in permanent contact with the health authorities to explore all possible solutions. But the twentieth anniversary of Primavera Sound deserves a party like the ones before, and conditions globally do not foresee that something like that can happen this summer. At least not in a way that we can live the full experience that Primavera Sound implies.

Once again, we are infinitely grateful for the collaboration of all the artists, agencies, sponsors, production companies and workers involved in everything necessary for Primavera Sound to exist. And to the attendees, our family, thank you for your patience and love. We owe you the best edition of Primavera Sound, and we are already working on it.

As last year, we will offer all ticket holders the possibility to keep their tickets for next year. It will also be possible to request a ticket refund from Wednesday, June 2nd, which is when the line-up for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2022 will be unveiled.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We will make it up to you doubly in 2022. Because yes, really, we will dance together again… and like never before.

In the meantime, we will reflect, debate and meet at Primavera Pro, the global meeting of the music industry, which will hold a hybrid edition (in-person and online) from June 2 to 4 this year. And we are already underway to have live music again this summer in Barcelona within what the legal framework allows. More news soon.”
