Your boss won’t be able to call you outside working hours… in Portugal

The Portuguese Parliament has just introduced rules to regulate teleworking and protect workers.

One of the consequences of the pandemic – which we still don’t know whether it was a positive or negative change in our lives – is teleworking. As a result, most countries have been forced to update labour rights in order to defend people’s private lives. And Portugal has just passed a very interesting law.

One of the main rules in place in the neighbouring country is the prohibition imposed on bosses to contact workers outside their working hours. Of course, there are exceptions: in case of emergency it is allowed. Fines are also imposed on companies that monitor the activity of their employees when they are teleworking.

The Portuguese Parliament has also introduced a law that financially benefits those who work from home. In this way, financial assistance will be provided to pay electricity and internet bills. Finally, bimonthly company meetings have been introduced in order to avoid the feeling of isolation.
