Luca Guadagnino, director of ‘Call me by your name’, is preparing the release of his new film, ‘Challengers’, a mix between ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Match Point’ starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist.
After his acclaimed hits ‘Call me by your name’, ‘To the bone: Bones & All’ or ‘We are who we are’, director Luca Guadagnino returns to the big screen with his latest release Challengers, a film about tennis and love triangles starring the acclaimed Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, who played a young Prince Charles in The Crown.
In his new film we will see a particular love triangle. Three young men, who meet at a professional tennis tournament, will see their relationships (clearly marked by competitiveness) develop over the years. Zendaya’s character, Tashi, suffers an accident on the tennis court and will have to abandon her playing career, dedicating herself to coaching Mike Faist’s character, Art.
Due to this bad professional moment, Art will have to enter the Challengers tournament, where he will compete against Patrick (Josh O’Connor), his former best friend and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend, whose reputation in the tennis world has plummeted. The tensions between the past and the present will put Tashi in conflict. Desire, jealousy, combativeness, envy and emotions will be at the centre of this story.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres on 15 September this year.
Why Zendaya was almost left out of the cast of Euphoria. This is the trio starring Zendaya that has set the networks ablaze: this is the new film from the director of ‘Call me by your name’.
