Matthew Williams (@matthewmwilliams) finally made his debut at Paris Fashion Week. With a frontrow of those who make history (Virgil, Asap, Kanye, Murakami, etc.), the American, really do the maximum with a complete, coherent and effective collection.
Matthew, who was art director of Donda, West‘s creative agency, and co-founded the DJ and art collective Been Trill with Heron Preston and Virgil Abloh, made a proposal that does not innovate but does not disappoint. That was the goal because since he founded his brand in New York in 2015 he had not exhibited the collection in the form of a fashion show, behind the scenes he said that this is “a culmination of his work from the past years… To show the codes of the brand for the first time.”
Williams showed us an evolution of his previous season, the collection it’s not a break but continues with its essence adapted to the new inspirations of the designer. Once again, the buckles, Rollercoaster fasteners and technical fabrics took centre stage.
1017 ALYX 9SM Menswear SS 2019
The collection in terms of aesthetics captured the essence of current trends with a mix of urban, street, punk and industrial and above all a lot of attitude.
Python prints – a trend that is consolidating in the next SS19 – , denim wash, graphic t-shirts or nylon pieces coexisted with unique footwear and the new collaboration with Nike that features a removable Vibram sole.
A first staging that closes a coherent, logical and sublime circle in terms of design. #mustfollow
