Theophilio continues to define the fashion zeitgeist with his particular vision of summer 2022: a season that projects light and color after a hiatus of pandemic-induced darkness. Fasten your seatbelts for a trip to Edvin Thompson’s Jamaica.
Theophilio’s spring-summer 2022 collection centers its discourse on Jamaican pride. A showcase of that culture materializes for the season through bold colors and fabrics under the title “AIR JAMAICA,” the first airline Edvin Thompson flew with when he immigrated to the United States in 2002.
Jamaican culture, from the food to the airline’s uniforms, is now reflected in a series of designs that advocate gender fluidity. Thus, dressed in the Rastafarian color palette, uniforms inspired by flight attendants with their characteristic berets opened the runway.
Among the “masculine” looks, the green sets with elongated torso and maxi-sleeves that take us back to the workwear aesthetic stand out. Denim is also included in this narrative: in an oversized format, accentuated by the green TP logo, and as an all-over print. A material that also constructs the short-sleeved shirts, as well as sets of wheat, light green, and orange stripes in soft hybrid denim material.
If we decipher the womenswear codes, we find mesh garments, ranging from short dresses to body-hugging catsuits, highlighting style elements of Jamaican culture. Silk dresses with contrasting colored bodices finish outlining the sensuality of the Jamaican brand‘s collection with which to embark on a cultural and visual journey into its universe.
