The new Chanel Mètiers d’Art collection for the 2021/ 2022 season is already in the air. The current creative director Virginie Viard, built a reflection where the past and present of the maison are intertwined through iconic patterns of the house and a 21st century Parisian look. The French label closes the 2021 cycle and embraces a new year full of possibilities.
The designs have been defined as “metropolitan, yet sophisticated”, very Chanel. 59 looks that evolve in aesthetics and color. A combination of prints and luxury accessories, a trademark of the house. Viard also included camellia ornaments, Gabrielle Chanel’s favorite flower and an element of inspiration for the founder.
The Dijon-born designer used the brand’s heritage to create the Mètiers d’Art collection. The legendary two-tone shoes were the star of the show, as well as revisions of the jacket and suit tweet first seen in 1924. For her part Virginie Viard has left her own mark that does not go unnoticed if you pay attention. The proposal breathes the avant-garde of the designer and poses a different style to the one that marked the great Kaiser, Karl Lagerfeld. Knitwear and denim pants are the ingredients of this new formula that works really well.
Attendees witnessed the industry giant’s interpretation of yesterday and today. The creative director has shown all she has learned during all these years in the shadow of Chanel to now be able to share her own knowledge with the future of the house.
The fashion show took place in the le19M space designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, one of the most interesting architectural gems of the French capital. “It is a vast space, very open, with a façade adorned with white concrete threads, a garden, beautiful walkways and a large gallery where exhibitions will also be held,” explained Viard.
