Antipodes: An installation by Andres Monnier and Pilar Zeta

Antípodes, the installation created by Andrés Monnier and Pilar Zeta, shows the opposition between two minds, worlds and universes….

Antipodes are those points on planet Earth that are diametrically opposite. Elements that are on opposite sides of a sphere. The purest contrast. This is the installation created by Andrés Monnier and Pilar Zeta, which shows the opposition between two minds, worlds and universes… Two proposals for bodies of work united by a common factor: the rock.

The affinity of choosing rocks for the human world is the link to ancient cultures. The appreciation and malleability of these elements are present in human evolution. The human being is capable of transforming matter, of intervening in the natural process of a stone and creating a whole different philosophy but… Have you ever wondered how rocks are able to transform humans?

Stones are solid and heavy. The weight of the rock is the weight of what we call time. They are not only composed of minerals and particles, they also possess energy. They hide truths and myths in their textures, shapes and colours. In nature, they can be found in many formats: from delicate textures to raw, brutalist surfaces. Exactly the same contrast exists between the Argentinian artist and the Mexican sculptor.

Pilar‘s sublime installation is composed of soft textures oriented towards human perfection: divinity. A tribute to an ethereal and intangible space like her thoughts, represented and created on a digital world but materialised in rock. At the antipodes are the works of Andrés, allusive to the wabi-sabi philosophy, where there is no room for perfection. Oriented towards organic forms, Monnier states that he does not create anything, he simply connects with different cosmic lines of knowledge and lets his mind and body synchronise to create pieces and installations with allegories in every detail.

In this way, Antipodes is an exhibition that shows bodies of work created with stone. A nostalgic feeling of an ancient synergy between humans and rocks, as well as Pilar Zeta‘s installation Doors of Perception, based on the idea that our subconscious is managed by symbols. The artist creates her new installation in which portals function as entrances to other levels of perception and transform our energy as we pass through them. The Doors of Perception act as a gateway that allows us to connect with our higher self. A kind of infinite portal that leads to new realities.

At the antipodes is Andrés Monnier‘s installation Pyrus. A rock pyramid of his own making that alludes to our ancestors and the collective amnesia that we are all part of when we forget where we come from. Referring to the forgotten links and burnt roots we have with our human ancestors, a series of invitations arise to question the way we perceive reality and how we are running our human world. Pyrus Installation invites us to connect with our genesis, with the primitive and with the origins of our world.
