At just 12 years old, North West takes her first major step into the music industry with N0rth4evr, a six-track project that feels closer to a creative experiment than a traditional debut. Written and produced entirely by herself, the EP mixes rap with guitar-driven sounds and a dark, emo-tinged aesthetic. It’s a project that makes one thing clear: North isn’t playing at being an artist — she’s actively shaping her own identity from the outset.
There are clear traces of her father’s style — the luxury, the fashion, that sense of excess — but here they’re told in a more personal, inward-looking way. On “H0w Sh0uld ! f33l”, for instance, North West samples “Monster” by Meg & Dia to reflect on feeling alone despite having everything. That contrast between wealth and emptiness echoes Kanye’s more emotional era, but she delivers it in a more direct, stripped-back way that speaks to her own generation.
The EP also drops several nods to the wider world surrounding Kanye West. On “Th!s t!m3”, there’s a darker, almost nightmarish atmosphere reminiscent of 808s & Heartbreak, while on “W0ah” she delivers the line “Balenciaga everything” — a reference that doesn’t go unnoticed given the brand’s recent history with Kanye. Still, what matters isn’t the reference itself, but how North West makes it her own: told from a darker, more vulnerable and less overblown perspective.
Behind the project is the full support of Kim Kardashian, who has amplified the release across her social platforms, alongside the constant — albeit more symbolic — presence of her father, who even appeared at the Los Angeles pop-up event. Beyond the family context, though, N0rth4evr works because it has personality. North West isn’t just inheriting a surname — she’s beginning to build her own narrative. And if this is the starting point, the real question isn’t where she comes from, but how far she can go.
