A new breakthrough for cancer. After 18 patients with locally advanced cancer were treated for six months with the drug Dostarlimab, the disease disappeared.
Early results suggest that the treatment is surprisingly effective and the successful cancer remission seen in all patients who participated in the trial may be unprecedented in cancer drug interventions, experts have said.
“I think this is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer,” said oncologist Luis Díaz Jr., MSK, one of the study’s authors. The participants did it as an alternative to other more invasive treatments, but thought they would have to undergo them anyway. But they didn’t.
The drug, which was given every three weeks for six months, works by exposing the cancer cells, allowing the immune system to identify and destroy them. Each dose cost about $11,000 and causes no serious side effects.
