AZTARNA is the latest collection of the Basque designer AITORGOIKOETXEA, who at 22 years of age presents us with a proposal for this AW22.
A proposal in which she works by applying velvet in different colours on various knitted structures. A whole universe of silhouettes of flowers, lines or even the very relief of the structures that we find in the knits. Jumpers, skirts, coats, leggings, berets, even slippers that remind us of those summer nights we spent in a hotel and will always remember.
In fact, “Aztarna” means “trace” or “footprint” in Basque, the designer’s mother tongue, and it is in this sense of capturing a memory and preserving it that inspired Aitor to use symbols such as flowers, or to simulate the trace that would remain on the garments when they are “embraced” by another person. That is why he places the velvet in the areas with the most relief on the garments.
Aitor is one of those promising young talents whose aesthetic sensibility and technique make him a must-see. A student at IED Barcelona, he was recognised with the ITS Responsible Creativity Award powered by Allianz, in the framework of the XIX edition of the International Talent Support 2021 – ITS Contest 2021, for his end-of-studies collection “Aitarekin Afaltzen”.
