Burberry have launched their new SS20 campaign at a time when models are dangerously more important than the garments they wear, and their work has taken on new dimensions. Ricardo Tisci has known how to capture it and make it work.
The brand’s iconic pieces go hand in hand with current trends. Cotton dresses with feathers, shirts under hoods and a head accessory that is a hybrid between the most street and the most rural. The gabardine line uses prints as a detail of novelty, while the signature bags inspired by the brand’s founder, Thomas Burberry, are a declaration of intent.
“I have been working for a few seasons to define a new identity and visual language for this house, and this campaign feels like the beginning,” Riccardo explained in a statement. “I wanted to celebrate the men and women who represent Burberry – some who have been a long-standing part of my career and others who have started this Burberry journey with me.”
Bella Hadid, Mona Tougaard, Freja Beha Erichsen, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Benji Arvay, He Cong, Nozomu Ito, Reece Nelson, Tosin Olajire and Rianne van Rompaey are some of the values that the firm has chosen to represent a new generation of models that are already classics. Inez and Vinoodh’s photo captures the complicity between them, which reflects the British brand’s fresh yet traditional air.
