Maren H. Anscheidt (@marenhannah) NY | Nike and COMME DES GARÇONS (@commedesgarcons) have been long-time partners, steadily consolidated the gap between streetwear and high fashion. All collaborations give a nod to CDG’s avant-garde nature, and just last year, the longstanding partnership between sportswear brand and fashion house arguably reached its peak at the unveil of the COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Air VaporMax.
Once upon a time Nike reached into its design archives to resurrect the ‘Night Track’, a classic which they then rendered new with today’s innovation. The glitter detailing of the shoe is inspired by the 1950s trend of customizing old cars and the era that kicked off a music revolution in American culture, spawning the invention of ’70s disco. Rei Kawakubo took this all americana inspired retro runner, kept it’s bold accents, but cleaned it up with an all-black colorway.
CDG ‘Black’ is known for is signature triple black pieces, the Night Track is a side step to the previously reworked Nike Waffle Racer they released back in 2017. Here, Kawakubo rejoins the sportswear giant to reveal this slick yet elevated shoe.
Japanese retailers like MEMPHIS (@memphis_kumamoto) debuted the sneaker earlier this week. As with previous releases like the CDG x Nike Air Max 180, Japanese availability has emerged before any knowledge of wider releasing in the United States and Europe, nevertheless, stay posted for any news on a Western drop.
