The most eagerly awaited fashion comeback has arrived. The maison has not paraded on the haute couture catwalk for 53 years. Now it is back with a collection that perfectly represents the heritage of Cristóbal Balenciaga.
In recent years with Demna Gvasalia as creative director of Balenciaga, the brand has received many mixed reviews. His transgressive and often shocking designs have been a source of debate among fashion fans. Now he surprises us again with the maison’s Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2021-2022 show as a tribute to Cristóbal Balenciaga.
The collection continues to keep alive the groundbreaking essence that characterises Demna Gvasalia, but with touches that pay homage to the brand‘s origins. Outrageous volumes, two-piece suits in bold tones and mermaid-tailed dresses inspired by his Spanish descent. However, the creative director does not hesitate to sneak in other more avant-garde garments such as tracksuits and denim.
The show took place in the same Paris salons where the designer used to show his designs back in the day. As if that wasn’t enough, Gvasalia recreated the fact that the models posed with the number cards of their looks as they did at the origin of the catwalks. Among the spectators were Kanye West, Bella Hadid, Anna Wintour, Lil Baby and a select group of fashion editors.
