EXTRA LIFE SPRING 2022, DOMINNICO ‘s new collection, celebrates the idyllic, iconic and passionate love represented in video games based on Kawaii aesthetics Manga, that love that we place in adolescence, as illusory as unattainable.
In the proposal, avatars who dress to be liked, get ‘extra lives’ in the shape of a heart after reaching an achievement, jumping over a barrier or overcoming a fear until they reach the game over. Now, Domingo Rodríguez Lázaro, the brand’s creative director, talks about social acceptance, freedom of expression and the need to belong to the group, conceiving the sporty look as the ultimate expression of luxury.
Among the techniques used in the collection are the biker-inspired jacket, handmade with tufting technique of carpet upholstery, in collaboration with Catifa Lab; the rubberised fabrics that reinforce the attitude of the new logo; the foamy fabrics of car upholstery; the abstract volumes but located in the body structure inspired by the artists Christo and Jeanne Claude and the cutouts in leather, fabric or technological material.
The application of jewellery charms on knickers and fastenings, as well as the brand’s logo in the form of a badge in keeping with the logomania trend, are other features of this collection in which DOMINNICO launches itself into the world of jewellery, designing a capsule in collaboration with Joys, a mainstream low-cost brand. The footwear in the collection, by Spanish brand New Rock, completes the look of EXTRA LIFE SPRING 2022.
In addition, it is worth noting that some of the garments are reversible, with the idea of achieving a double styling to be worn depending on the mood. DOMINNICO‘s usual colour palette – featuring soft pink, pastel blue and silver – is now joined by egg yellow, fuchsia and pear green to contrast with white, black and grey.
In terms of fabrics and materials, with sustainability as a premise, silhouettes are recreated using tencel from leftover stock, vinyl, neoprene, laminated leather and virgin wool yarn, as well as recycled taffeta.
