These are the most used emojis of 2021

As 2021 draws to a close, it is the perfect time to compile lists of absolutely everything throughout the year. That’s why Unicod has compiled data on the most used emojis of the last 365 days. 

The top ten most used emojis in order are: laughing crying face, red heart, laughing crying face, tilted, thumbs up, crying face, praying hands, face sending a kiss, face with heart eyes and shy smiling face. It seems that the most used emojis this year remain in a positive mood.

The curious thing about this ranking is that no matter how many emojis are released, the same ones are always used. This is demonstrated by the rankings that Unicode has released since 2019, in which only the positions vary. Flags are in the least used category despite having the largest collection of emojis with 258 options.
