Fear of God runway debut: beyond trends and time

Last night Jerry Lorenzo took another step forward in its career with Fear of God ‘s debut on the runway. It is the first time the brand has walked the runway in its 10-year history, and it did so at the iconic Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl amphitheater with a proposal that transcends time and space.

Jerry Lorenzo has arrived in Hollywood with the pillars of his identity well established and worked: bespoke basics in earthy colors, elevated tailoring and a collaboration with Adidas that was long overdue. The fashion show, because it can’t be called anything else, has had 4,000 people gaping, filling the networks with videos. Thanks to them, the fashion show could be seen in every corner of the world, because Fear of God did not broadcast it live. Something quite unusual considering that today all brands broadcast their fashion shows live on one of their networks.

The Venezuelan model America Gonzalez has been in charge of opening the show with a black tailoring look that has served as a precedent of what we were going to see in the Fear of God 8th Collection. The beginning has been dominated by black and a sartorial silhouette with outerwear. As the show progressed, earth tones, grays, mustard and even pale green came into play, as well as new textures and shapes. Leather, wool coats and suits have been interspersed with cotton basketball pants and fringe. Both the male and female silhouettes appear strong, using strong shoulders while conveying a comfortable tailoring with that sporty look that identifies Jerry Lorenzo’s work. The gloves in vibrant green and blue, have put the note of distinction to several looks.

Fear of God’s debut runway show also served the designer to present his long-awaited collaboration with Adidas. This includes a high-top sneaker, side-striped and fringed sweatpants, bags and caps. The sneakers, without a doubt, have been the stars of the collaboration and as soon as Pusha T saw them while singing at the show, fans started to preview the shoes on social media. Jerry Lorenzo has also managed to take many celebrities out for a ride with his Fear of God debut. Perhaps the most surprising visit was that of Kanye West with his alleged wife Bianca Censori. Ye was in his typical uniform: all Black, hood up and a face mask. Bianca’s look has gone over stockings, even on her head. The truth is that the poor girl didn’t look very comfortable, but you know how these celebrities are… Besides, it’s a very similar look to the kind of things Kim Kardashian used to wear when she appeared with her ex-husband. Is it the rapper’s intention or does Censori want to look a bit like Kim?

Fear of God, which has always stood out for its functionality, without sacrificing elegance and style, has put in value its philosophy and has provided us with a show of timeless pieces that transcend seasons and trends. These are garments that you can wear anytime, anywhere, and that at the end of the day, they last. It’s probably just what the fashion consumer needs in a time of uncertainty. Silent luxury  for Fear of God has been an open secret.
