Matthew M. Williams once again excites through fashion and art. He teams up with graphic artist Chito to create a narrative around adventure and homecoming, airbrushed through graffiti in Givenchy’s new proposal for the Resort 2022 season.
In her first pre-collection runway show for the house, M. Williams brings together those two inspirational worlds she moves through: from her American roots to the stimulation she experiences on the streets of Paris.
“I wanted to bring together my American roots and my new life in Paris. There’s an energy of going out on a new adventure, of building on something familiar while creating something completely new,” Williams explained the inspiration behind her new designs in a press release. “Chito was an ideal collaborator because we share that storyline; we speak the same language. Like me, he expresses his distinctive visual signatures through unique pieces that give people total freedom to make the creations their own personal statement.”
The train tracks of Paris became the perfect setting to display his new art collection in which we find motifs such as Chito‘s cartoon dog on dresses or T-shirts, matching the designer’s iconic horned caps.
In addition, the graphic artist presents his Truehearted (an image of a girl and a heart) and 4G Heart (a mix of Givenchy’s DNA and his own signature) prints in a play of contrasting colors. Though here the key pieces and codes are delicate spider web hoodies, distressed denim and metal buckles on fitted jackets. The collection is completed by the collaboration with RIMOWA and its silver suitcases adorned with Chito’s airbrushed designs.
Givenchy Resort Spring 2022 will be available in physical and online stores starting November 5.
