As the Black Lives Matter protests and vigils continue across the United States and much of the world, H&M has also wanted to speak out. The brand (@hm) is standing in solidarity with the Black community following the death of George Floyd by announcing a $500,000 donation to the NAACP, ACLU and Color Of Change.
These three grantmaking organizations work to fight systematic racism, amplify black voices and defend human rights.
On Instagram, H&M acknowledged that activism goes “far beyond a social media post,” with many taking advantage of the occasion to be opportunistic. He added that the company is standing by and supporting the Black community “today and every day. However, there have been several racist scandals at H&M in the past.
Instagram, for its part, will donate $10 million to anti-racism efforts.
