Issey Miyake celebrates 20th anniversary of Miyake watches w/ Naoto Fukasawa

Issey Miyake and Naoto Fukasawa celebrate the 20th anniversary of Issey Miyake Watches by co-designing a pair of watches.

Issey Miyake is in luck, as this month marks no less than 20 years since it launched its first line of watches. And two decades in the world of watchmaking are not celebrated every day, so to celebrate this beautiful news, the Japanese brand wanted to celebrate with a watch capsule collaboration with the (industrial) designer Naoto Fukasawa.

Miyake and Fukasawa have joined forces to jointly design two minimalist-style watches, one in the form of a chronograph and the other just a timepiece. Named “Ellipse”, this pair of watches is characterised by Fukasawa’s clear, simple lines, avant-garde aesthetics and clean, round dials.

The former has a 45mm case and is powered by Seiko’s VD51 quartz movement, with a small seconds at 12 o’clock and minute indicator at 6 o’clock, while the latter measures 41mm and uses the Japanese manufacturer’s VJ21 movement for a minimalist three-hand option. Both models are available with stainless steel cases and interchangeable straps, one in gold-plated mesh and the other in black calfskin.

What do you think of this pair of watches from Issey Miyake and Naoto Fukasawa – nice, isn’t it? If you like them, you’ll have to wait until July 9th, when they go on sale on its website. As for the cost of the watches, we have to say that it is still unknown.
