Kim Jones, creative director of Dior Men —and since September, also artistic director of Fendi’s women’s collection— has announced via Instagram the date and location for the presentation of the 2021 pre-fall collection. For now, we know that the appointment will be on December 8th in Beijing.
With this image for the Chinese edition of Wall Street Journal, the designer revealed some data about his next collection for the French firm. Tokyo and Miami were the previous stages for the 2019 and 2020 pre-fall seasons, respectively. On this occasion, the creative director has chosen Beijing as a new destination to present his latest proposal.
Although we don’t know more details yet, given the circumstances we can sense that it won’t be an ordinary fashion show. Not only because the current context forces to replace the face by the virtual, but because according to Fashion Network, Dior will conduct an exclusive event in Beijing while presenting the collection online. Therefore, on December 8th we won’t see Bella Hadid, Ezra Miller, Kate Moss or David Beckham in the front row, as usual.
It’s not the first time we’ve enjoyed a menswear proposal from the brand in this format. The spring/summer 2021 collection was also presented online and the designer collaborated with Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo for the occasion. Similarly, this symbiosis between fashion and art is also quite recurrent in Jones’ exercise. In his first show for the maison there was a giant statue signed by Kaws and in the spring/summer 2020 show, the set was designed by Daniel Arsham.
Will Kim Jones return to hir passion for art?
