Kurt Cobain’s Fender Mustang guitar up for auction

Several of Kurt Cobain’s items, including the Fender Mustang guitar he used on “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, are being auctioned off.

A number of Kurt Cobain’s items, including the Fender Mustang guitar he used on “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, his 1965 Dodge Dart 170, his artwork and the odd NFT, are being auctioned for the first time.

The guitar used in the visual for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is a 1969 Fender Mustang left-handed guitar with a Competition Lake Placid blue finish. The starting price is between $600,000 and $800,000. A portion of the proceeds from the Fender Mustang will go to Kicking The Stigma: “the initiative of the Indianapolis Colts and the Jim Irsay family to raise awareness of mental disorders and eliminate the stigma associated with these illnesses”.

Another item up for auction is Kurt Cobain‘s 1965 Dodge Dart 170 4-door sedan. Nicknamed “Baby Blue”, the starting bid price is estimated between $400,000 and $600,000. While it retains much of its originality, it features a new water pump, gas tank, heater core and radiator repair, original badges and a title confirming it is Cobain and Courtney Love’s.

Also for sale is an exclusive NFT with a narration by the late Nirvana member’s guitar tech, Earnie Bailey, and a 360° digital representation of the guitar. Also included will be an exclusive NFT from the collection of Cobain’s sister Kim, who has owned the vehicle for the past 28 years and bought it from Love after her brother’s death.

Other items in the collection include Cobain’s artwork on Iron Maiden’s 1985 “Killers” skateboard, his Michael Jackson artwork, his all-access pass from Nirvana’s 1993 Utero concert tour, his United Airlines boarding pass from a flight he took from Seattle to Chicago and his Australian Nevermind tour schedule, to name a few.

Prior to the auction, items will be available for viewing at Julien’s Auctions Gallery in Beverly Hills from 11-15 April, at the Hard Rock Cafe showcase at Piccadilly Circus in London from 28 April to 3 May, then at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, New York from 16-20 May.

Now… Why not take a look at Kurt Cobain’s childhood home?
