Before the lights of the 2025 Grammys illuminated the stage, rumors about the long-awaited release of MAYHEM, Lady Gaga’s new album, were already circulating like wildfire. During the awards broadcast, the singer premiered “Abracadabra,” a song that not only redefines her sound, but also comes accompanied by a video that elevates what we understand by visual and musical art.
“Abracadabra” is positioned as one of her most aggressive proposals since Chromatica (2020). A powerful and rumbling synthesizer sets the base for a hypnotic hook: “Abracadabra, abracadabra! Feel the rhythm under your feet, the ground is on fire.” In the video clip, Gaga appears in haute couture looks, including a vintage Givenchy piece, courtesy of the Alexander McQueen archive.
The track unfolds in a dizzying structure, where the harshness of synth bass meets the ethereal softness of house piano riffs, culminating in a chorus charged with extreme emotions: “Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na. Death or love tonight!” The message is clear: Gaga is not afraid to play with the duality between ecstasy and darkness.
In addition to performing “Abracadabra,” Gaga and her collaborator Bruno Mars won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo for “Die With a Smile.” This recognition is not only a testament to her legacy, but makes her only the third person in Grammy history to achieve multiple #1s in three different decades. A milestone that only an artist of her caliber can achieve.
And as if that weren’t enough, the duo took advantage of their platform to pay tribute to the victims of the devastating wildfires in California. With an emotionally charged performance, they chose “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas as the piece with which they paid tribute to those who have suffered. A gesture that reinforces the power of music as a vehicle of awareness and solidarity.
