The Ballon d’Or 2023 ceremony took place last night at the iconic Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where the best professional football players are honoured each year.
And the winners of this edition, selected through an arduous voting process involving one hundred journalists from around the world, were Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmatí. Two unrivalled sporting figures whose dedication and hard work have been recognised with the famous golden ball trophies, which were transported in two exclusive Louis Vuitton trunks designed for this special occasion.
Handcrafted in the Maison‘s historic workshop in Asnières, the boots are covered in legendary Monogram canvas and feature folding front panels and a hand-painted gold-coloured V for ‘Vuitton’ and ‘Victoria’. Closure details are finished with protectors in lozine, the distinctive material that Louis Vuitton has been adding to its boots for over 160 years. On the inside, a black microfibre lining covers the box containing the Ballon d’Or, whose logo is carefully embroidered on the lid.
In this way, the Maison continues to add historic milestones through the creation of custom-made boots celebrating the world’s most important sporting triumphs such as the FIFA World Cup, the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, the Rugby World Cup, the NBA’s Larry O’Brien Trophy, the Davis Cup, Roland Garros and the America’s Cup in sailing.
Notably, Leo Messi opted for a fully customised Damoflage wool dinner jacket matched with a white shirt, bow tie and black derbies. A total LV look that he complemented with the new Tambour watch. Jude Bellingham, the young football star, also wore a black wool crossover suit with pearl buttons, wide-legged trousers, white shirt, black bow tie and black derbies, all from the house.
