Designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh is very close to winning the position of best collection of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), if not the most interesting, as her Fall 2022 proposal presented at the Clemente Theatre on the Lower East Side has been the one that has pleasantly surprised us the most so far.
The NYC theatre was the place where guests flocked to soak up the elevated atmosphere created by Nassir Zadeh’s refined and elegant approach, to which she added: “I want to try to achieve an elegance with soul, a spirit within the garments,” explained Maryam backstage. “I love clothes and I collect clothes, so I feel there is an energy in the clothes.”
This new twist and direction towards basic shapes has been brewing since the pandemic – “those are the things you want to take out of your wardrobe” and it seems she has succeeded, as her AW22 collection is full of timeless basics in clean silhouettes with a punk rock edge available to be reimagined time and time again. These basics have been dyed in a wide range of neutral colours, save for the occasional red, blue and berry. The best thing about this collection? The detailing on the garments, the cropped tops, the pointed collars and the thick layers on the men’s and women’s garments, which are inspired by German New Wave films, in shades of make-up.
Do you think like us that Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s collection was and will be one of the best of this year’s New York Fashion Week?
