Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons reinvented the Fondazione Prada archives under a stage that symbolised the transition from fantasy to reality for the men’s FW22 collection. A cast of Hollywood icons were chosen to parade from the fictional plane to Prada’s real life.
The label is taking a different path to most fashion brands at the moment. While everyone else is still working under the streestyle line, focusing on the aesthetics of generation Z, Prada is moving away from oversized logos and towards elegance. Although the brand wants to be identified without logos, its triangle on every garment makes it instantly recognisable.
Through elegance and sophistication, a sense of uniformity leads the Prada FW22 collection, with pragmatic garments in leather and silk. Tailoring is at the forefront of the Italian house’s universe this time, highlighting knitwear, bomber jackets and parkas. Structured shapes and lines emphasise the shoulders and the waist is a clear representation and celebration of the work uniform.
Hollywood stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum, Damson Idris, Kyle MacLachlan, Tom Mercier, Jaden Michael, Louis Partridge, Ashton Sanders and Filippo Scotti were chosen to walk through the futuristic tunnel that Prada created and, looking like the set of a sci-fi movie, made a new representation of reality in Prada’s new FW22 season.
Although Prada’s men’s fashion show for the autumn/winter 2022 season conquered Milan, it has also received a lot of criticism. The Diet_Prada account (@diet_prada), which denounces the injustices of the fashion system, compared the brand’s looks with those of other fashion houses. “Missing the days when Prada did the opposite of what everyone else in the industry did…”, was the conclusion they drew.
