Rich, handsome and white: the Abercrombie & Fitch documentary arrives

Netflix premieres “On Target: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch”, a documentary about the brand’s racism and classism.

Netflix premieres “On Target: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch”, a documentary that exposes racism, classism and sexual abuse at a brand that believed it was above right and wrong.

In the early 21st century, Abercrombie & Fitch – the brand you’ll remember for being synonymous with rich, handsome, white guys – revolutionised the American fashion market with its vision of the ideal man. Guys who looked like they’d stepped out of a Californian surfer cult and waited for you shirtless at the shop entrance. A true paradigm of the most elitist America, an aspirational brand designed to sell an ideal of beauty.

The streaming platform par excellence, Netflix, has once again recovered the story of this company which, despite appearing idyllic, is haunted by shadows. The documentary tells in detail the brand’s policy, its explicit racism and the multiple accusations of sexual abuse that weigh on the creator of the vast majority of the firm’s campaigns and the CEO himself, Mike Jeffries. The matter even went to court.
