The Royal College of Art (RCA) in London has officially announced a new fellowship in honour of the late designer Virgil Abloh.
The scholarship pays tribute to Virgil Abloh’s dedication to education. RCA announced that the full tuition scholarship will begin next year for any programme at the School of Design. “This initiative aims to help break down barriers to education and support the next generation of visionary designers and innovators.”
In addition to a full scholarship, the student will also receive industry experience and networking opportunities with the support of British fashion designer Samuel Ross and other creative industries partners throughout their studies. Abloh has long had a relationship with the school and joined as an honorary visiting professor in 2020.
He has often expressed that supporting the next generation of creatives is an important way to advance culture. The fellowship aims to champion equal opportunities in the creative industries. The scholarship will apply to all areas of postgraduate study including fashion, textiles, product design, service design and smart mobility.
The RCA Virgil Abloh Scholarship was established with the support of Shannon Abloh and the Fashion Scholarship Fund team in the USA.
