Australian brand Song for the Mute has been on the back burner for more than ten years, focusing its offerings on the IYKYK audience and the creative industries that praise Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty’s brand. Now, it’s time to come back, to stay, and present their autumn/winter 2022 collection called “22.2 Les olympiades”.
This collection, categorised as the brand’s best work, pays homage to the creative director’s childhood and focuses on the housing projects of Paris in the 1990s, where brutalism contrasted with the long-lived characters living within the concrete walls. This season, Ty writes a love letter to this defining era that is prevalent throughout his work, drawing on the fashion, culture and aesthetics of his upbringing.
Regarding the autumn/winter season, this one is mainly characterised by formal silhouettes finished in oversized style and cut in denim as for example the grey coat, and elegant touches brought to more casual garments, see the case of acid-washed lab coats with bright pink washed finishes. On the other hand, the aforementioned coat also appears in black satin, offering another nod to formality and paired with matching trousers. We also have to highlight the impeccable mix of styles they’ve done by mixing a green square-knit tracksuit with a matching jacket.
Finally, the finishing touch to this brilliant collection is the first sneakers with a nineties aesthetic in black and beige nylon, mesh and suede with adiPRENE midsole in collaboration with Adidas Originals, which go perfectly with the acid-washed jeans or the padded nylon tracksuit with white stitching in navy blue.
Brutal return of Song for the Mute, isn’t it? Check out the gallery to see the autumn/winter 22 collection in its entirety and take a closer look, you’ll enjoy it.
