Supreme takes inspiration from ‘Gummo’ for latest release

‘Gummo’, the 1997 American experimental film, becomes Supreme’s main reference for its new capsule.

Directed by Harmony Korine, the film was intended to reflect the frustration provoked by romanticised representations of contemporary American life.

“It’s like looking at a book of private photos. There’s a picture of you in front of a castle or maybe a monument,” Korine commented on his own vision of the project. “And next to it is a picture of your grandfather on the toilet. And next to it is a picture you took of Michael Jackson. If you look at them separately, without knowing the context, they will seem singular or random. But the fact that one is next to the other makes a kind of narrative emerge. That goes together with Gummo. That’s how Gummo was written.”

Twenty-three years later, Supreme revisits this story to imbue its new designs with the director’s original artwork. Thus, we find a sports jacket; a football T-shirt; a hoodie; two T-shirts and two skateboards. Scroll through the gallery below and discover the selection:

You’ll be able to get the full collection on Thursday 28th April through Supreme‘s website as well as in their physical shops.
