Swarovski x Nike, the most representative shoe of the Y2K culture

Swarovski and Nike will release a redesign of the Air Max 97 silhouette in “Polar Blue” that revives the aesthetics of the 2000s.

This drop is out of the perspective of all those who were born after the 2000s era. New generations will see a retro-futuristic shoe in a shiny finish thanks to Swarovski and a familiar Nike silhouette; but those of us who were part of the pop culture of the decade will recognise an aesthetic representative of the prevailing style. A symbol and an aesthetic reference of yesterday in the present.

The trainer brand and the jewellery firm want to reissue the Air Max 97 model to pay homage to Y2K nostalgics. This collaborative work is not unprecedented for anyone; in 2017 Nike and Swarovski already reimagined the silhouette. Four years later they offer us a new colourway, “Polar Blue”. The lines of the Air Max design are defined by hundreds of Swarovski crystals. This bling-out version satisfies the fetishes of those who love to stand out.

Satin upper materials, shiny laces and rhinestone detailing capture all the light to make any outfit stand out. Blue swoosh branding on the side and tongue highlights the shoe’s versatility and whimsy. A white midsole and black outsole wrap the Air Max unit.

The estimated price of the pair will be $400, just over 250 euros. The Swarovski x Nike collaboration will be released on March 25th. You can purchase them at the Nike SNKRS link below.
