It’s been ten years since the Japanese Bag made its catwalk debut for MM6 Maison Margiela‘s FW09 collection. Designed after returning from a trip to Japan, the bag was inspired by the century-old art of origami.
Its triangular silhouette and the buttons in the corners allow it to fold over itself to change shape, like a sheet of paper turning into a swan. The soft materials, minimalist look and unconventional style have made it a timeless cult in constant evolution.
Each new season the bag is revised and reinterpreted in new shapes, sizes and colors. The iconic triangle has a thousand declinations: tote, cube, handbag, purple, gold, silver, green, beige, iridescent, transparent, graffiti, camo, eco-leather, mesh, patchwork, leather…
To celebrate the tenth birthday of its most popular item, MM6 decided to add a Japanese Nano, as small as a jewel, to the large, medium and small versions. It is now available both in the shop and online. The price? From 190 euros.
