The new ALYX is elegant and soft

Alyx presents its RTW SS2021 collection. A much awaited proposal since it is the first one after Matthew Williams has signed with Givenchy.

This collection, which combines male and female pieces, is one of Alyx’s most exciting collections to date, to which the images in Toyin Ibidapo’s lookbook contribute. Much of the rigidity or aesthetic rigour associated with their early work has been removed, jackets are now reduced to their most essential forms and lightweight dresses make up the bulk of the women’s clothing range.

Williams shows an obsessive attention to detail with her men’s clothing and her gender-fluid pieces, the highlights of which are the fully fitted jackets and the narrow, hand-tacked pants. Williams estimates that about 12,000 studs go into each piece, each of which requires six days of work for production.

The new sneakers proposal stands out, which you can see in the lookbook below.

The new collection does not escape from the tactical but rather softens it in its implementation. The pieces are simpler than those seen in the early days of Alyx. Now everything is smooth, elegant and elevated. Although he says he keeps Alyx and Givenchy as far apart as Milan and Paris, all this we see in his personal project bodes well for what we will see in his debut with the Parisian maison.
