The North Face x Gucci: Chapter 2

Gucci presents the second chapter of its collaboration with The North Face in an innovative selection of products.

Gucci presents the second chapter of its collaboration with The North Face. This innovative selection of products picks up where its predecessor left off, staying true to the philosophy of celebrating the spirit of exploration in all its forms. Whether to literally discover places and cultures or to live more metaphorical adventures, this collection continues to focus on the curious and is inspired by the values of self-discovery and self-expression that define both brands.

To tell the story of the second phase of this collaboration, Alessandro Michele conceived a campaign set in Iceland and captured by the French twins Jalan and Jibril Durimel. The images and video allow us to discover the unique landscape and mystical spirit that characterise this land. Iceland, the least densely populated country in Europe, is a dreamlike place with all kinds of evocative landscapes. From black volcanic sand to green hills and formidable glaciers. And it’s against this backdrop that Gucci‘s intrepid explorers make their appearance, hiking the Nordic island. With Iceland’s vast and breathtaking landscapes as a backdrop, the images capture them in joyful, spontaneous moments while wearing the collection’s distinctive products.

This special crossover collection for men and women integrates ready-to-wear; soft accessories; luggage and footwear; including many pieces such as hiking boots; backpacks with multiple pockets and insulated jackets in a powerful nod to The North Face outdoor universe.

The ready-to-wear selection comprises different styles and designs, including a series of bomber jackets and waistcoats with the classic GG monogram throughout, as well as reimagined styles of The North Face‘s iconic 90s attire, decorated with colourful prints, some inspired by the Gucci archive. In addition, the collection features a selection of uniquely designed outerwear applied to remastered iconic styles from the 1970s featuring The North Face‘s latest patented technologies, the latest in technology and construction from the brand. Key elements of these styles focus on a minimalist approach to performance and function; including the use of an ultra-lightweight bonded baffle construction in place of seams; unique thread constructions to thermoregulate during wear and transfer printing on a nylon base.

The second chapter of The North Face x Gucci collection reflects both brands’ commitment to eco-sustainable activities: it uses ECONYL®; a nylon fabric created from reclaimed materials (fishing nets, carpets and other scraps) that can be recycled and reconstituted, reducing its environmental footprint. In addition, 100% of the down insulation is certified to Control Union‘s Responsible Down standard.

The packaging of the pieces comes in a deep pink and is adorned with The North Face x Gucci logo. The garment bags, boxes and cases have been strategically designed to reduce the environmental impact throughout the manufacturing chain. All paper and board is sourced from sustainable forests, and uncoated paper has been used to ensure it is fully recyclable. In order to limit paper consumption and reduce the use of bags, the boxes are equipped with their own handles. Bulky items come unboxed, in cotton bags and pouches.

The collection will be distributed through a selection of Gucci shops and ephemeral Pop-Ups, in spaces designed to evoke pristine icy landscapes. The North Face shops in New York, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo will also feature a selection of dedicated products. In addition, a limited selection of The North Face x Gucci pieces will be available through gucci.com.
