They say that Madrid has no beach, but they are wrong. Thanks to the imagination of some bars and restaurants we are getting closer and closer to the sea, the sand, the sun loungers… without leaving the capital. From the H. team we present you the beach bars in the city to enjoy this summer to the maximum.
Café del Rey
The terrace of Café del Rey, this neighbouring bar to the Temple of Debod, is actually a tiki bar with hammocks and surfboards, more like a Caribbean beach bar than a beach bar in the centre of the capital. Mojitos, daiquiris, sangrias (or even the Pride cocktail if you happen to be celebrating Pride) are served among palm trees, white sand that carpets the patio and bamboo canes that give it an exotic air.

Cava Baja 5
From the outside, Cava Baja 5 is just another tavern in La Latina, but on the lower floor there is sand under the brick arches that roof the basement. The bar is christened with its exact address, so you can’t miss it, but its most loyal customers colloquially call it “la playa” (the beach).
C. de la Cava Baja, 5, 28005 Madrid
Xiringuito
Xiringuito by Casa Mono is Madrid’s beach club. X-Madrid’s gastronomic space has a menu full of traditional and international recipes. In addition to good food, you can also enjoy concerts and DJ sessions in the evenings, play volleyball or do yoga. Kiograms of sand have turned this business into a bar on “the seashore”.
C. Oslo, 53, 28922 Alcorcón, Madrid
Grama Bar
In its efforts to bring the best of Venezuela, Grama Bar ended up looking like a Caribbean lounge just a few metres from Puerta del Sol. In this oasis you can enjoy the best Venezuelan cuisine and eat arepas, tequeños and other delicacies that make this place a paradise in the middle of the capital.
C. de la Cruz, 19, 28012 Madrid
La Playa de Lavapiés
In the street with the most bars in Lavapiés, Argumosa, you’ll find this beach bar, which has managed to keep intact the air of an urban beach bar thanks to its murals that recreate summer scenes on tropical beaches and tiki-style wooden furniture reminiscent of the most surfing Hawaii. In summer, its terrace is one of the most popular and its dishes include healthy tapas.
C. de Argumosa, 9, 28012 Madrid
Ojalá
The restaurant Ojalá has become well known because it hides a beach in its basement. The restaurant, located in Malasaña, has a very particular summery feel to it, with the ground floor full of sand where you can bury your feet while you sit at ground level. The menu of this little paradise offers a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes.
C. de San Andrés, 1, 28004 Madrid
Areia
This former Irish pub converted into a chillout bar is surely one of the venues with the most personality in Madrid. This beach club-style bar, located in the bohemian neighbourhood of Justicia, has many possibilities. During the day you can have a bite to eat, in the afternoon you can relax and at night you can enjoy a cocktail while listening to the best DJs in town.
C. de Hortaleza, 92, 28004 Madrid
Vincci The Mint
This four-star hotel of the Vincci chain is located in the heart of Gran Vía. Designed by innovative and avant-garde interior designer Jaime Beriestain, one of its strong points is the terrace, The Mint Roof. A space located on the rooftop of the building with comfortable sofas, spectacular views and a small food truck to enjoy a drink while you enjoy this little urban beach bar.
C. Gran Vía, 10, 28013 Madrid
